| Part Time Opportunities
If you're still at school and starting to spend time thinking
about your working future and talking about it with your friends
and family, we have a few ideas for you.
The printing & graphic communications industry is always looking for smart people to join us in one of our several trade areas. At this stage you may not be sure about whether the printing & graphic communications industry is for you, and you want to continue on and get your senior certificate anyway.
We suggest the best of both worlds - staying at school to
finish Year 12 and at the same time taking on a school-based
traineeship with one of the many businesses in our industry.
This would usually mean going to school 4 days a week, working
with a printing & graphic communications industry business
for half a day a week, and attending TAFE for half a day a
week. You'll also be paid for the time you spend working with
the business. By the time you've finished Year 12 you'll have
a Certificate II in Printing & Graphic Arts and, if you
decide our industry suits you, you'll be highly sought after
to take up an apprenticeship in one of our trade areas. After
that the ball's really at your feet in terms of career options,
wages and security.
If you don't want to commit quite that much at present, but
still want to get some experience in the printing & graphic
communications industry, many businesses are always looking
to take on work experience students.
In this case you will attend a business for a pre-agreed period
of time to learn a little about the industry and to help you
make up your mind about where you'll be tomorrow.
In the cases of both school-based traineeships and work experience you will need to be part of a formal agreement between yourself, your school and the printing business, and if you are under 18 years of age with your parents or guardian.
