Screen printing has applications across a wide range of products,
from posters to clothing to vinyl stickers. It is especially
suited to creative people who love working with colours and
different surfaces (sports clothing, shirts, cardboard, plastics,
etc).
Did you know that a lot of the designs on cool clothing you
see every day are produced by screen printers? T-shirts, jackets,
blouses, baseball caps very often are produced by screen printing
companies. Even some high fashion clothing is based in screen
printed designs.
Screen printing has developed over recent years to the point
where there are several new applications within hi tech industries.
For example, screen printing technology is used in the manufacture
of touch-sensitive control panels and instrument panels for
use in boats and aircraft and in many other ways.
Screen printers are in very high demand to meet the growth
within this part of our industry. To become a qualified screen
printer you will need to take on a full-time apprenticeship
(Certificate III in Printing and Graphic Arts [Screen Printing]).
Alternatively you can apply for a full time traineeship or
stay at school and learn about the industry by taking on a
school-based traineeship or a work experience program.
